A Tennis Community
As a tennis coach, I fully understand the enormous pressure players face to accept various collaborations, memberships, special promotions and formal institutional representations. Instead of offering membership, I want to offer community.
I am not a huge fan of institutionalised clubs and organisations that are primarily run to collect membership fees. To be honest, I also won’t be able to produce specialised content such as how to improve your backhand or develop a better serve. I’m sure there are many excellent tennis content creators who can do that much better.
What I would like to try instead is to build our tennis community through dialogue — direct, open and based on understanding our shared needs and having conversations about the things that matter to us.
If you are 14 years old and training in Belgium or Chile, do you face similar challenges? If you are playing ITF tournaments, what are your criteria for selecting tournaments? What would you like organisers to improve so that you can compete better and enjoy the experience more?
These are human questions, and they deserve human interaction.
Much of this can easily happen online, through social media, discussions and webinars. But we can also meet in person. If your academy or club would like to invite me to give a workshop, I would be very happy to come.
I am not trying to compete with coaches — quite the opposite. I believe this could be a valuable opportunity to bring players and coaches together, have meaningful conversations, exchange perspectives, and perhaps help move our profession in the right direction, while making sure players enjoy the workshop as well.
All of this comes from one simple idea: I want to build a tennis community based on human interaction.
Coach Martin
The project has three pillars:
Workshops: Offering conceptually interesting workshops to tennis centres and academies around the world.
Coaching: Providing private tennis coaching, including online coaching.
Community: Sharing insightful tennis knowledge and creating meaningful conversations through webinars, both online and in person.
If you send me a message through my contact form letting me know that you would like to be included on the invitation list, I will send you an email in advance whenever a webinar is taking place, together with all the relevant links and information.
Otherwise, I will share information about upcoming webinars on social media in advance anyway.
